Faculty Member, Information & Media Studies
Associate Professor
About
My primary research interest is the history of the Internet as a means of communication and a medium, including archiving the Internet and websites.
My other research interests are media theory, the Internet, and the relation between the two. Currently, my focus is on the website as a textual phenomenon and on its intermediate status – i.e., its relations to other media. Since my main goal is to elucidate and develop theory, I am rereading exemplary parts of media theories in order to (re)evaluate their status and relevance.
Finally, to a lesser extent I spend time cultivating a long-time research interest: recent French philosophy, history of ideas, and epistemology. Of primary interest here are thinkers such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Michel Foucault, Jean-Francois Lyotard, Paul Virilio and Régis Debray.
